China's Ministry of National Defense Criticizes Japan's New Defense White Paper

On August 4, Chen Xi, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, responded to the Japanese government's 2026 Defense White Paper, saying that the Japanese side was hyping up a "security crisis in the surrounding region" and accusing China's military activities in order to find an excuse for advancing its own military loosening. Chen Xi said that the Japanese side's document is filled with false narratives and deliberately stirs up the socalled "China threat"; the Chinese side is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposes this. He also pointed out that in recent years, Japan's ruling authorities have continued to increase defense spending, push forward the development of longrange strike capabilities, and accelerate related adjustments to security policies. Chen Xi emphasized that the Taiwan question concerns China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is the political foundation and an uncrossable red line in ChinaJapan relations. The Chinese side urges the Japanese side to deeply reflect on history, stop interfering in China's internal affairs, and not continue down the wrong path of "remilitarization."
