The Democratic Party of Korea is still experiencing internal conflict as it has not been able to decide on the method for electing the party leader or the rules for the primary election, even with just three days left until candidate registration for the party convention.
The party Supreme Council failed to narrow its differences over the introduction of a preferential voting system, and related discussions have in effect come to a halt due to backlash from Supreme Council members aligned with the proChung faction. Concerns are being raised both inside and outside the leadership that preparations for the party convention are being delayed.
Candidates for party leader also continued their exchanges, each repeating their existing positions. The Party Convention Preparatory Committee says further discussions are difficult unless the Supreme Council reaches a conclusion, and believes that, with time running short, the matter needs to be settled as soon as possible.
