The National Science and Technology Awards Conference, the Academicians Conference of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the 11th National Congress of the China Association for Science and Technology were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the morning of July 8. Xi Jinping attended the conference and presented awards to recipients of the State Supreme Science and Technology Award and others, and then delivered an important speech, stressing that the "15th FiveYear Plan" period is a critical period for making breakthroughs in building China into a leading country in science and technology. We must accelerate efforts to achieve highlevel selfreliance and strength in science and technology, and move steadily toward the goal of building China into a leading country in science and technology by 2035.
During the conference, Ding Xuexiang read out the decision on the 2025 National Science and Technology Awards, and Academicians Chen Liquan and Ben De were awarded the State Supreme Science and Technology Award. Representatives of the other recipients of the National Natural Science Award, National Technological Invention Award, National Science and Technology Progress Award, and International Science and Technology Cooperation Award also received recognition.
In his speech, Xi Jinping said that efforts should be strengthened to conduct systematic breakthroughs in the science and technology innovation system, promote the deep integration of scientific and technological innovation with industrial innovation, improve the efficiency of science and technology investment, deepen reform of the science and technology evaluation system, and improve governance of science and technology ethics and security. He also pointed out that greater importance should be attached to cultivating young science and technology talent, creating an environment that encourages innovation and respects the laws of scientific research, and providing
