The Cheonan Seobuk Police Station in South Chungcheong Province said on the 16th that it is investigating four middle and high school students on charges of aggravated theft and unlicensed driving for stealing a passenger car in Seoul's Gangseo District and driving it to Cheonan without a license.
They are believed to have stolen the vehicle in Seoul on the afternoon of the 12th and then traveled more than about 100 km to Seobuk District, Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province. The driving lasted about eight hours, and the crime was eventually exposed after a minor collision.
Police believe they started driving after finding the key while trying to take valuables inside the car. Police applied for arrest warrants, but the prosecution rejected them, taking into account that they are minors. After investigating the detailed circumstances, police plan to send the case to prosecutors without detention.
