Gina Ferrie, deputy director of the Atlanta Zoo in the United States, recently told Xinhua in an interview that after waiting two years, the zoo is very happy to see giant pandas from China return, and has already made preparations for the arrival of the new pair of pandas, “Ping Ping” and “Fu Shuang.” According to arrangements made by both the Chinese and U.S. sides, the pair of giant pandas arrived at HartsfieldJackson Atlanta International Airport on the morning of the 27th, U.S. Eastern Time, aboard a chartered flight, and will begin a 10year period of living in Atlanta Zoo. Ferrie said the zoo has made several upgrades to its facilities, including expanding daytime activity space and improving lighting and flooring, in order to better care for the giant pandas. Ferrie said that after arriving in the United States, the two giant pandas will first have an adaptation period of more than one month, during which the zoo will try to maintain a quiet and comfortable environment, before gradually sharing updates about them with the public. The report also noted that the panda conservation cooperation research between the Chinese side and Atlanta Zoo has continued for more than 20 years and has yielded a number of breeding results.
