Brunei Sultan Hassanal met with visiting Chinese Minister of National Defense Dong Jun in Bandar Seri Begawan on July 28, and the two sides exchanged views on issues such as bilateral relations, defense cooperation, and regional security.
Hassanal said that the foundation of relations between Brunei and China is solid, and that Brunei firmly adheres to the One China policy. He expressed willingness to continue promoting cooperation between the two militaries in areas such as institutional dialogue, personnel exchanges, and education and training, and welcomed more visits by Chinese naval vessels.
Dong Jun pointed out that this year marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei. Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, cooperation in various fields between the two countries has continued to advance. China is willing to strengthen practical cooperation with Brunei in areas such as maritime security, jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea, and promote further development of bilateral relations.
