The Blue House mentions the possibility of additional U.S. tariffs
In response to the U.S. USTR Section 301 investigation and the possibility of additional tariffs, the Korean government continues consultations with the U.S. and provides materials while closely monitoring the tariff level and scope of application
National Security Office Director Wi Sunglac said on the 22nd at the Blue House that additional tariffs could be imposed in connection with the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR)'s Section 301 investigation.
He explained that Section 301 could be used on the grounds of forced labor or overproduction issues, but that the actual manner of application could vary depending on interpretation. He also said that even if Section 301 is used, he understands that it will not exceed the tariff level agreed upon between South Korea and the United States.
Director Wi said that consultations with the United States on related matters are underway, and that the South Korean side is also continuing to provide necessary materials and explanations. He also cited the U.S. case of additional tariffs on Canadian products, saying that the United States could impose tariffs in various ways.
