On May 6, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on issues including negotiations between Iran and the United States, the regional situation, and ChinaIran relations.
Araghchi briefed Wang Yi on the latest progress in the IranUS talks, saying that the Iranian side advocates resolving the crisis through peaceful negotiations, safeguarding national sovereignty and national dignity, and hopes that the Chinese side will continue to play a role in easing tensions and promoting dialogue. The Iranian side also reaffirmed its commitment to the oneChina principle and expressed its willingness to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries as an opportunity to advance exchanges at all levels and practical cooperation.
Wang Yi said that the Chinese side has always advocated promoting reconciliation and talks, supports Iran in safeguarding its sovereignty and security, and appreciates the Iranian side's pursuit of a political solution through diplomatic channels. Wang Yi emphasized that the current situation in the Middle East is at a critical juncture, and that a comprehensive ceasefire and the resumption of dialogue are of great importance. The Chinese side is willing to continue providing support for deescalation in the region, promoting peace talks, and deepening the ChinaIran comprehensive strategic partnership.
