International figures discuss the Global Development Initiative: Practical measures bring hope for prosperity to developing countries

BEIJING, July 28 — A highlevel meeting marking the fifth anniversary of the Global Development Initiative was held in Beijing on the same day. Several international figures said that the initiative, guided by pragmatic cooperation, has brought more development opportunities and hopes for prosperity to developing countries. The report noted that over the past five years, the Global Development Initiative has gradually evolved from a proposal put forward by China into an international consensus, and has received support from the United Nations and other international organizations as well as more than 100 countries, with over 80 countries joining the "Group of Friends of the Global Development Initiative." Attendees believed that the initiative has placed the issue of development back at the center of the international agenda, emphasizing the promotion of poverty reduction, green transformation, and digital cooperation through concrete action. The Director of the Office of the UN SecretaryGeneral, LaTorre, said in his speech that China has accumulated experience in poverty reduction and economic and social transformation, which it can share with other countries facing development setbacks, and that it can also play an important role in reforming the international financial architecture, enhancing the representation of developing countries, and promoting green development and the application of digital technologies. The ambassadors to China of Kenya and Pakistan also expressed support for the initiative, saying that multilateral cooperation and an open rulesbased system are crucial to sustainable development.
