The 13th Beijing Xiangshan Forum was held in Beijing on September 16, with the safety of maritime routes becoming a major focus of attention. Many Chinese and foreign representatives attending the forum said that conflicts between countries should not affect the safety and smooth flow of international shipping lanes.
Representatives from Malaysia, Australia, Russia and other countries and regions drew on their own experience to emphasize the importance of keeping key maritime routes open, and called for reducing the risk of misjudgment through international organizations, crisis management mechanisms, regional consultations, and relevant regulations, so as to prevent disputes from escalating.
Participants also pointed out that maintaining the stability of important passages such as the Strait of Hormuz is in the common interests of the international community; to avoid similar issues recurring in other regions, majorcountry relations must be stabilized and international law and international rules must be observed.
