On July 2, the China Meteorological Administration released the "Atmospheric Environmental Meteorological Bulletin (2025)," which showed that the national average number of haze days in 2025 was 15.5 days, 3.2 days fewer than in 2024 and 11.1 days fewer than the nearly 10year average from 2015 to 2024. Overall, haze conditions continued to improve.
The bulletin noted that in 2025, the country's atmospheric environmental and meteorological conditions were generally favorable. There were seven largescale haze events throughout the year, with only one severe haze episode, and the meteorological conditions as a whole were conducive to a decrease in the number of haze days.
At a press conference that day, Huang Zhuo, deputy director of the National Meteorological Center, said that since 2000, China's atmospheric environmental quality has generally shown an improving trend. After haze reached its peak in 2013, it has continued to decline and has tended to stabilize since 2018. At the same time, the overall frequency of sandstorm events of severe intensity or above has decreased, and acid rain pollution has also continued to improve since 2008.
