Prime Minister Kim Inspects the Basic Income Pilot Project for Farming and Fishing Villages in Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam

Prime Minister Kim Minseok visited Idongmyeon in Namhaegun, South Gyeongsang Province, a pilot project area for the rural basic income program, on the 12th to check its operational status and local reactions. Prime Minister Kim assessed that this program, which provides 150,000 won a month in local currency for two years, could help invigorate the local economy and ease the decline in the rural population. Namhaegun reported that the population increased after the pilot project began, and the Prime Minister said this could be seen as a sign of a virtuous cycle. He said the program could lead to effects that revitalize regional areas and ease overheating in the Seoul metropolitan area, and instructed officials to closely review reactions on site and consider any necessary improvements.
