Lee Yong returns as general director of the bobsleigh and skeleton national team
Returns as the general director of the national bobsleigh and skeleton team, aiming to recreate the glory of PyeongChang Watch for his return to the field, where he will lead the rebound of Korean sledding by reorganizing the team through 2028
Before taking office, the lawmaker will return as head coach of the national bobsleigh and skeleton team. The contract period runs until the end of March 2028, and the return was confirmed after approval from the Korea Sport & Olympic Committee.
Coach Lee previously led the national team at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, where he guided them to a skeleton gold medal and a fourman bobsleigh silver medal. This return marks his first time back in the field in six years since entering politics.
Korean sliding sports have failed to win a medal at recent Winter Olympics, and improving results this season remains a challenge. Coach Lee said the athletes have enough ability, but that team management and strategic improvements are needed, and added that he will help restore the competitiveness of Korean sliding sports.
