Jensen Huang Rebuts Warnings of AI Doomsday

We examine the controversy over AI risks, Jensen Huang's rebuttal, and the importance of scientific evidence. See the difference in views on Hinton's 10% warning and the Nvidia CEO's position.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has dismissed as an overinterpretation the claims made by academics who have warned that artificial intelligence (AI) could pose a major threat to humanity. In an interview with the New York Times published on the 23rd, Huang said it was irresponsible for University of Toronto professor emeritus Geoffrey Hinton to say there was a 10% chance of social collapse caused by AI. He pointed out that such a figure is not based on scientific evidence. Huang emphasized that warning about AI risks cannot automatically be seen as beneficial to society, adding that the discussion should be grounded in objective evidence and science. Professor Hinton, a pioneer in the fields of AI and deep learning, received the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics and has recently repeatedly stressed the need for AI safeguards.
