The Pearl River Flood Control Headquarters and the Pearl River Water Resources Commission announced on the 20th that the floodcontrol Level IV emergency response remains in effect. Relevant departments had earlier convened a floodcontrol consultation meeting, and in line with the requirements of the Ministry of Water Resources, assessed the recent rainfall and flood risks in the Pearl River Basin and deployed measures to guard against heavy rainfall.
According to meteorological and hydrological forecasts, in the next three days, Guangxi's central and eastern areas, western and central Guangdong, and other places will still see relatively heavy rainfall, with some areas possibly receiving substantial cumulative precipitation. As a result, the main stream of the Xijiang River and tributaries such as the Liujiang, Guijiang, and Hejiang Rivers are expected to experience rising water levels, and some small and mediumsized rivers as well as areas prone to mountain flash floods will face higher risks.
The Pearl River Water Resources Commission said that heavy rainfall in the upper and middle reaches of the basin is currently relatively frequent, with significant overlap in rainfall areas, soil moisture levels close to saturation, and some reservoirs still operating at high water levels, making the floodcontrol situation rather severe. Going forward, it will continue to strengthen monitoring and forecasting of rainfall and water conditions, issue warnings, and coordinate reservoir operations, while also inspecting weak embankment sections, reservoirs with defects and safety hazards, and waterrelated projects under construction, in an effort to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and the safe passage of engineering projects through the flood season.
