Prime Minister Han orders emergency duty in preparation for heavy rain in the central region

Prime Minister Han Seongsook instructed relevant agencies to maintain an emergency duty posture and make every effort to ensure public safety as heavy rain of up to more than 300 mm is forecast for the central region on the 18th and 19th. According to the Office of the Prime Minister, Prime Minister Han issued emergency instructions to local governments, the Korea Forest Service, the police, and the fire authorities in preparation for the heavy rainfall, and emphasized that areas damaged by flooding from the recent rain should strengthen prior inspections and safety measures so there will be no additional damage. She also urged them to inspect evacuation systems for residents and strengthen monitoring and control of lowlying floodprone areas such as semibasement homes and underpasses, as the risk of soil runoff, landslides, rockfalls, and retaining wall collapses has increased due to weakened ground. The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast that strong rain will fall in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon, and Chungcheong regions from the early morning of the 18th.
