Wang Yi meets UN Secretary-General Guterres and Russian representative Oreshkin in Shanghai
Coordinated advancement of artificial intelligence governance: Wang Yi meets the UN Secretary-General and the Russian representative in Shanghai Focusing on AI that is beneficial, inclusive, and secure, helping global cooperation and new opportunities for China-Russia relations
On July 17, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met in Shanghai respectively with UN SecretaryGeneral Guterres and Oreshkin, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Russian Presidential Executive Office, who were visiting China to attend the World Artificial Intelligence Conference.
During the meeting with Guterres, Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with the United Nations, jointly promote the governance of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, and foster healthier, safer, and more orderly development of related technologies. Guterres said that he agrees with President Xi Jinping's keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the conference, and believes that the proposals therein regarding AI for good, inclusiveness, and safety are consistent with the UN philosophy.
During the meeting with Oreshkin, Wang Yi said that the Chinese side is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Russian side in areas such as artificial intelligence, enhance capacity building in Global South countries, and promote the continued development of bilateral relations. Oreshkin said that President Xi Jinping's speech has global significance, that the Russian side supports the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization, and that it is willing to continue participating in relevant cooperation.
