Ministry of Water Resources: The flow in the river channel of the Gyirong landslide-dammed lake in Tibet is normal, and the glacial lake as a whole is stable

Hydrological monitoring in Gyirong, Tibet: the landslide-dammed lake and glacial lake are generally stable, and river flow is normal Pay attention to rainfall over the next three days and two rising-water alerts, and prepare in advance for evacuation and risk avoidance

The Ministry of Water Resources said that the latest drone aerial survey shows that the channels upstream and downstream of the barrier lake on the former Puruo Puqiang Zangbo River in Jilong, Tibet, are currently flowing normally, and the water body in the impact crater of Nepal's Cuojian River is also flowing normally. The 14 glacial lakes previously inspected have remained generally stable, with 9 showing a slight decrease in area and 5 showing a slight increase. The small landslide body downstream of the barrier lake has had little impact on the river channel. The Ministry of Water Resources also noted that light to moderate rain may occur around the Jilong Port over the next three days, with cumulative precipitation expected to be 10 to 30 millimeters. Due to the rainfall, the Jilong Zangbo River will experience two rises in water level, and the flow at the port may reach 150 to 200 cubic meters per second. The Ministry of Water Resources reminded frontline personnel to continue monitoring changes in rainfall and water conditions and to make advance preparations for evacuation and risk avoidance.
