Commissioner Kim served as acting chief after former Commissioner Heo Seokgon was suspended from his post last September over allegations of involvement in emergency martial law, and he was formally appointed in March. The National Fire Agency said that Choi Yongcheol, acting chief of the Gyeonggido Fire and Disaster Headquarters, was promoted and appointed as vice commissioner of the National Fire Agency effective on the 15th. The new Vice Commissioner Choi entered the service as part of the 10th class of Fire Officer Candidates and has held major posts in Gyeonggi, Sejong, and Jeonnam.
