Wang Yi meets with Solomon Islands Foreign Minister, emphasizing that China-Solomon Islands cooperation is not subject to interference by third parties

On July 14, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Solomon Islands Foreign Minister and Minister for Foreign Trade Honipwela in Beijing, and the two sides exchanged views on ChinaSolomon Islands relations and the direction of cooperation. Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2019, ChinaSolomon Islands relations have developed smoothly, and cooperation in various fields has continued to advance. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication with the Solomon Islands side, deepen political mutual trust, promote practical cooperation in jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative as well as in green energy, education, healthcare, youth exchanges, and other areas, and continue to support the Solomon Islands in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions. He also pointed out that China’s cooperation with Pacific Island countries aims to promote SouthSouth cooperation and common development, is not directed at any third party, and should not be subject to external interference. Honipwela said that the Solomon Islands side attaches great importance to relations with China and is willing to continue expanding economic and trade cooperation, peopletopeople and cultural exchanges, and multilateral cooperation, so as to promote further development of bilateral relations.
