Jeong Cheong-rae overtakes Kim Min-seok in a poll on preferred Democratic Party leader
Jeong Cheong-rae leads in public opinion polls, reversing the trend in preference for the Democratic Party leader Quickly check the direction of the party leadership race and reactions amid a close contest within the Democratic Party support base
A public opinion poll showed that Democratic Party leadership candidate Rep. Jeong Cheongrae was ahead of Rep. Kim Minseok. The survey was conducted on July 2021, and Jeong was found to be more preferred both among all respondents and among Democratic Party supporters.
In the Media Tomato survey, based on all respondents, Rep. Jeong ranked highest in firstchoice preference at 33.7%, while Rep. Kim was at 22.0%. Looking only at Democratic Party supporters, the race was within the margin of error, with Jeong at 39.4%, Kim at 37.5%, and Rep. Song Younggil at 14.2%.
In the previous survey by the same agency, Kim had been ahead of Jeong, but the trend shifted in this result. In the KSOI survey as well, Jeong recorded a slightly higher figure than Kim in suitability for party leader.
Jeong said that recent polling trends have been turning in his favor, and his camp also assessed that a structure emphasizing the party’s identity had formed. Meanwhile, Kim’s camp said that tension has been growing in response to supportbase reactions.
