Admission Application System Extended by 1 Hour Due to Failure Just Before Deadline
Extended application period for university admissions rolling recruitment, fairness controversy spreads due to server failure Check the detailed situation, including confusion over submissions just before the deadline and relief procedures
A system failure occurred in the application submission service right before the deadline for early admissions applications for the 2027 academic year university entrance process, and the deadline was extended by one hour. This incident raised controversy over fairness, as it could change the opportunities available to different examinees.
According to the Korean Council for University Education, around 5:50 p.m. on the 11th, the server of the application agency UwayApply went down and was restored around 6:20 p.m. The KCUE, following its emergency response manual, pushed back the deadline to 7:00 p.m. and decided to carry out relief procedures for examinees who were unable to submit on time by checking saved records and other data.
The admissions industry believes that, since there are many cases in which applicants change their strategy after looking at the competition rate right before the deadline, the onehour extension may have affected the choices of some examinees. The Ministry of Education said it would prioritize relief for affected students while also reviewing measures to prevent a recurrence.
