Kia Overtakes Hyundai in Domestic Sales for the First Time in April

Kia ranked first in domestic sales, surpassing Hyundai by 1,000 units in April 2026 Check out why the trend changed due to the strength of RVs and eco-friendly vehicles, and see the market outlook

Kia overtook Hyundai for the first time in domestic automobile sales in April 2026. It took first place by a margin of about 1,000 vehicles, as sales of RVs and ecofriendly vehicles such as the Sorento, Carnival, Sportage, and EV3 increased. Hyundai's domestic sales declined due to production disruptions for key models and the impact of deferred demand. In contrast, Kia is being analyzed as having drawn consumer interest in a high oilprice environment with its lineup centered on hybrids, electric vehicles, and SUVs. However, in global total sales, Hyundai still outperformed Kia, and in the U.S. market, sales for both companies fell slightly. The industry expects that expanding demand for ecofriendly vehicles and production conditions by model will affect performance trends for the time being.
