The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it congratulates Egypt's former Foreign Minister Fahmy on his appointment as the new SecretaryGeneral of the Arab League and looks forward to him promoting further development of ChinaArab relations during his term.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said at the regular press conference on June 26 that the Arab League is an important symbol of the Arab countries' unity and selfstrengthening. The Chinese side is willing to continue strengthening solidarity and cooperation with the Arab side, jointly address various challenges, enrich the connotation of the ChinaArab strategic partnership, and advance the building of a ChinaArab community with a shared future at a higher level.
This statement responded to the news that the Arab League Council of Foreign Ministers agreed on the 22nd to appoint Fahmy as SecretaryGeneral of the Arab League.
