Kim Yojong, head of the General Affairs Department of North Korea's Workers' Party, strongly criticized President Lee Jaemyung's remarks on easing military tensions between North and South Korea. In a statement to the Korean Central News Agency on the 2nd, Kim described this as the “climax of a farce,” belittling the South Korean government's conciliatory message toward the North. She also pushed back against the South Korean government’s allegation that North Korea was responsible for the landmine explosion incident in the DMZ on the western front. She further claimed that South Korea is escalating tensions along the border area, repeatedly stating that there would be no room for interKorean contact. These remarks came immediately after the South Korean government said it would continue measures to ease military tensions. With North Korea publicly criticizing this, observers say that resuming interKorean dialogue will likely not be easy for the time being.
