A political dispute has broken out over the contents of a text message sent by Foreign Minister Cho Hyun to Yonsei University honorary professor Moon Chungin regarding the issue of troop deployment related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Independent lawmaker Han Donghoon claimed during a National Assembly interpellation on government affairs on the 10th that Minister Cho had sent a text to Professor Moon implying the president should be held responsible. In response, Professor Moon refuted the claim as untrue and said the text sent by Minister Cho had explained the government's position of limited participation for the safety of international sea lanes.
Professor Moon explained that he shared this information for reference during a KoreaJapan highlevel strategic dialogue held in Tokyo, Japan. The Foreign Ministry also said the following day that Minister Cho had not sent the text message claimed by lawmaker Han, adding that it had been communicating the government's accurate position to experts and explaining it.
