Wang Wenbin: China's demining support for Cambodia is moving from bilateral to multilateral

Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin said on July 8 at the closing ceremony of the “LancangMekong Mine Clearance Cooperation” project in Svay Rieng Province, Cambodia, that China’s support for Cambodia’s mine clearance efforts has expanded from bilateral cooperation to multilateral mechanisms such as LancangMekong Cooperation. Wang Wenbin said that this cooperation reflects China’s neighborhood diplomacy philosophy and also helps promote regional countries’ joint participation in humanitarian mine clearance actions, fostering peace and development. China said it will continue to strengthen mine clearance cooperation with Mekong countries, including Cambodia, in the future. At the ceremony, the Cambodian side’s representative thanked China for its longterm humanitarian demining support and said the relevant projects have helped reduce the threat posed by landmines and have created a safer environment for production and daily life in local communities. According to official Cambodian data, from 1979 to June this year, landmine and explosive ordnance incidents in the country have caused more than 19,800 deaths, and the government plans to complete the clearance task by 2030.
