Park Ji-young, Former Prosecutor, Appointed as Senior Secretary for Judicial System at the Blue House

It has been confirmed that President Lee Jaemyung has appointed attorney Park Jiyoung, a former prosecutor, as the judicial system secretary in the Civil Affairs Office of the Blue House. Attorney Park previously served as deputy special prosecutor in the 'insurrection special counsel' case, and will be responsible for criminal justice system and prosecution reformrelated duties. The judicial system secretary is a position newly created under the Lee Jaemyung administration, and it had been vacant for about four months after the inaugural secretary stepped down after eight months. Officials in the ruling bloc believe that appointing Attorney Park could speed up followup work on prosecution reform. The newly appointed secretary Park previously served as chief prosecutor of the Yeoju branch of Suwon District Prosecutors' Office and as a senior prosecutor at Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, and also took part in the investigation related to the December 3 emergency martial law incident. As the presidential office has consecutively assigned prosecutors by background to the civil affairs chief and then to the judicial system secretary, debates are continuing both inside and outside the ruling bloc over the direction of prosecution reform and relations between the ruling party and the presidential office.
