Large supermarkets begin sequential sales of 1.12 million U.S. eggs

The government has decided to additionally import 21.12 million fresh eggs from the United States and Thailand by next month in order to lower egg prices that have risen due to the fallout from avian influenza. Of these, 1.12 million fresh eggs from the United States will be supplied sequentially to EMart and Lotte Mart starting on the 20th. Recently, the retail price of a 30egg pack of large eggs has exceeded 7,000 won, rising significantly from a year earlier. While the government says the recovery of domestic laying hens is progressing, it takes time for production to be reflected in prices, so it plans to make up for the temporary supply shortage with imported volumes. The imported eggs being sold this time are priced at around 5,900 won for a 30egg pack, which is lower than domestic retail prices this month. The government believes domestic production will gradually recover in the second half of the year, but says the timing of price stabilization may vary depending on factors such as heat waves.
