Ariane Lalancette wins women's race at Ottawa Ironman

Athletes competed in Ottawa’s Ironman triathlon on Sunday despite heavy rain warnings across the National Capital Region. The race included a 3.8kilometre swim in the Ottawa River, a 180.2kilometre bike course, and a full marathon through the city.
University of Calgary student Kiyan Sunderji won the men’s race in 8:27:53, finishing ahead of last year’s men’s winner, Luke Evans. Ariane Lalancette of Quebec City was the fastest woman, finishing in 9:09:33 and beating her closest competitor by nearly 43 minutes.
Organizers closed several downtown roads for the event, including stretches that remained shut until early Monday. Environment Canada had forecast 50 to 100 millimetres of rain in parts of the region.
