TTC to install automatic train signalling on Line 2
TTC Line 2 signal upgrade will boost subway frequency and cut delays Hitachi Rail's CBTC project starts in 2028—see how Toronto transit improves
Toronto’s transit agency has signed an agreement to replace the signals on Line 2, also known as the BloorDanforth line, with a communicationsbased train control system.
The TTC says the new technology will help trains run closer together, which should improve service frequency, reduce delays, and increase capacity on the subway line.
According to the agency, the project will be delivered by Hitachi Rail Canada and is expected to begin in 2028 and finish in 2037. TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said the upgrade is part of a broader effort to modernize the system, improve reliability, and support a growing city.
