Montreal’s Place des Arts begins $134 million renovation

Place des Arts renovation updates Montreal Theatre Building with safety upgrades See how the $134M facade rehab preserves Brutalist design through 2028

Work has started on the Theatre Building at Montreal’s Place des Arts, a $134 million rehabilitation project expected to continue through the summer of 2028. The renovation focuses on the building’s exterior facade, where inspections found advanced deterioration in the panels of the envelope. The site includes Théâtre Maisonneuve, Théâtre JeanDuceppe and Salle ClaudeLéveillée. Place des Arts says the project is meant to improve public safety, preserve the building, and update the facade with durable materials while keeping its original Brutalist design. Programming at the main venues will continue during the work, although Salle ClaudeLéveillée will be closed and some services will be temporarily relocated.
