Gordie Howe bridge traffic tops 340,000 in first full month
Gordie Howe International Bridge traffic topped 343,507 crossings in August See how Windsor-Detroit traffic is shifting as more drivers and trucks cross
Traffic at the Gordie Howe International Bridge between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit reached 343,507 vehicle crossings in August, its first full month of operation, according to new data from the Bridge and Tunnel Operators Association.
The total was close to traffic at the nearby Ambassador Bridge, which recorded 345,445 crossings in the same month. The mix of traffic differed, however: the Gordie Howe Bridge carried far more passenger vehicles than trucks, while the Ambassador handled more trucks than cars.
Statistics Canada also reported that the Gordie Howe Bridge handled 34,800 commercial transport truck entries into Canada in August. A supply chain expert said some trucking firms may still be tied to existing toll agreements at the Ambassador Bridge, which could affect how quickly traffic shifts between crossings.
