Google loses appeal over €4.1 billion EU antitrust fine

Europe’s top court has upheld a 4.1 billion euro fine against Google, ending the company’s appeal over allegations that it used Android to unfairly favor its own apps and services. The European Commission first imposed the penalty in 2018, saying Google abused its dominance in mobile software through preinstallation agreements with smartphone makers. A lower court later reduced the amount from 4.34 billion euros to 4.1 billion euros, and the European Court of Justice has now confirmed that decision. Google said Android gives users more choice and supports developers and businesses, and argued that it had already changed its agreements to address the regulator’s concerns. The case is part of a broader EU crackdown on Big Tech, with regulators also examining major technology companies under newer digital rules.
