The Trump administration is proposing changes to Bidenera truck emissions rules in a move officials say could reduce costs for the trucking industry and ease pressure on supply chains.
According to the EPA, the plan would save truckers an estimated $12 billion by removing certain DEFrelated engine deratements and speed limits, while replacing them with warning alerts so vehicles can keep operating until repairs are made safely.
EPA air chief Aaron Szabo said the changes are intended to lower transportation costs and help reduce prices for food and other goods delivered by truck. The proposal would also scale back some emissions warranty requirements while keeping most of the planned reductions in nitrogen oxide emissions.
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said the current rules have raised costs for rural communities and equipment operators. The administration says the update is part of a broader effort to roll back Bidenera environmental regulations.
