Alfredsson reflects on joining the Maple Leafs
Daniel Alfredsson leaves Ottawa for Toronto, embracing a new challenge as Leafs coach See how the Senators legend is adjusting and why this move matters ahead of Saturday
Daniel Alfredsson says his move from the Ottawa Senators’ organization to the Toronto Maple Leafs was not an easy decision. The former Senators star and current Leafs associate coach discussed the change ahead of Toronto’s game against Ottawa at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Saturday.
Alfredsson, who spent 17 of his 18 NHL seasons in Ottawa before later coaching there, said he wanted a new challenge and a chance to grow as a coach. He now works on Toronto’s power play and said he has been welcomed back by some former rivals, including Darcy Tucker.
The 53yearold remains one of the most accomplished players in Senators history, with franchise records in goals, assists and points. He said returning to Ottawa had been emotional, but he is adjusting to life in Toronto and focusing on the season ahead.
