CNBC survey shows worsening economic outlook and low Trump approval

Economic survey shows voters still pessimistic as inflation eases and markets rise Cut spending? See why households remain wary, plus the issues shaping voter views

A new CNBC AllAmerica Economic Survey finds that most registered voters remain pessimistic about the U.S. economy, even as stock markets have risen and inflation has eased. The poll, conducted among 1,000 voters nationwide, says 61% feel negative about the current economy and its future, while 25% are optimistic. The survey also shows that many households are still adjusting to higher prices. Nearly half of respondents say they are cutting back on essential purchases, and twothirds report reducing spending on nonessential items such as dining out and entertainment. Lowerincome households were more likely than higherincome households to say they are scaling back essentials. President Donald Trump’s approval ratings remain weak in the survey, especially on the economy, inflation, and the war with Iran. Democrats hold only a small advantage in congressional preference, suggesting that voter dissatisfaction has not yet translated into a major shift in party control. The poll also found that food and grocery costs remain the top concern for many voters, while immigration is the main issue for Republicans and housing ranks high among younger voters.
