The federal government has asked Alto to examine adding a highspeed rail stop in Kingston, Ontario, as part of possible changes to the planned TorontoQuebec City corridor.
Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said the request reflects feedback gathered during public consultations held over three months in communities across Eastern Ontario and Quebec. He said no final decision has been made.
The proposed stop would be part of a southern route option between Ottawa and Peterborough and could connect with Kingston’s Via Rail station. Alto said the added stop could improve access for residents in the region, but it may also increase travel time and project costs.
