Police warn of break-ins in Durham Region by suspects posing as landscapers

Durham Regional Police are warning residents about a series of daytime breakins in Durham Region involving suspects who allegedly posed as landscapers. Police say at least 11 homes in Clarington have been targeted since April, with additional incidents reported in Ajax and Pickering. Investigators believe the suspects focused on homes backing onto parks, trails, or green spaces, and may have used landscaping tools to avoid suspicion. In some cases, the suspects reportedly broke in through back sliding doors or used ladders from nearby yards to reach secondfloor windows. Police say stolen property has included electronics, cash, and jewelry, including one incident involving more than $40,000 worth of jewelry. Residents are being advised to lock doors and windows, secure ladders and tools, and consider using security cameras. Police say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with video or other information to come forward.
