Hungary Orders 10 Russian Diplomats to Leave
Hungary expels Russian mission members after security concerns under Vienna rules See why Budapest acted, how Moscow replied, and what it means for EU security
Hungary has ordered 10 members of the Russian mission to leave the country after authorities said their activities were not acceptable under the Vienna Convention.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orban said the decision was made on security grounds and did not mean Hungary was ending diplomatic relations with Russia. She said Budapest still wants to keep necessary dialogue with Moscow while following diplomatic rules.
Russia said it would respond to the expulsions. A European Commission spokesperson said the move was a legitimate reaction to Russia’s ongoing hybrid attacks against the EU and its member states.
