Meta's Muse AI app surges in downloads, topping U.S. iOS charts See how its rapid rise stacks up against ChatGPT and what it means for AI agents

Meta's Muse AI personal agent has quickly climbed app store rankings after launching on Sept. 8, briefly passing ChatGPT to become the top free iOS app in the U.S., according to Sensor Tower. The app has recorded about 730,000 downloads in roughly its first five days and more than 2.5 million total downloads since release. Over the same postlaunch period, Sensor Tower said ChatGPT drew 3.1 million downloads, while Claude and Grok logged about 400,000 and 200,000, respectively. Meta says Muse is designed to help users manage digital tasks such as filling out forms and organizing email. The app runs on Meta's Muse Spark AI models and marks a major move by CEO Mark Zuckerberg into the AI agent market. The launch has also drawn attention from investors, with Meta shares rising on the news and analysts discussing whether AI agents could see broader consumer adoption. At the same time, the report notes concerns about privacy, security and how these tools interact with online services, including Amazon's decision to block Muse from its shopping site.
