Brad Bradford promises police outpost at Union Station if elected mayor
Toronto police outpost at Union Station could boost safety and crisis response See Bradford’s transit plan for every TTC station, more officers, and faster help
Toronto mayoral candidate Brad Bradford says he would open a Toronto police outpost at Union Station if he wins the October election. He announced the plan outside the transit hub on Thursday, saying a permanent police presence would improve safety and respond faster to people in crisis.
Bradford said conditions around the station have worsened and linked the issue to broader concerns about public drug use, homelessness, and transit safety. His campaign also proposes officers at every TTC station, platform edge doors, fare refunds for major delays, and hiring 1,000 more police officers over a first term.
Mayor Olivia Chow’s office said homelessness in Toronto has declined in recent years and pointed to a city pilot project at Union Station that connects people to shelter and services. Toronto police said they are already working with Metrolinx on a permanent presence at the station, while Bradford said details on cost will come later in his campaign.
