Review cites reduced trust at Kelowna General Hospital

An independent review of Kelowna General Hospital says workplace relations between physicians and Interior Health leadership have worsened, with reduced trust and repeated concerns about how staff complaints were handled. The report, commissioned by Interior Health in May 2025, was intended to identify barriers to sustainable pediatric care at the hospital and help improve working conditions. It found that some doctors felt their concerns had been dismissed for years, contributing to frustration and public criticism. The review also noted longrunning staffing pressures in the pediatric unit. Between 2023 and 2025, the number of fulltime equivalent pediatricians fell sharply as several doctors left, including some who cited sustainability concerns. Interior Health says staffing has improved since then, with more recruitment, added team members, and clearer pathways for raising issues.
