Father describes daily grief at sentencing hearing in Scarborough killing
Scarborough gas station murder sentencing reveals a father’s lasting grief Court hears from the victim’s family as a judge weighs a teen killer’s punishment
The father of a tow truck driver killed outside a Scarborough gas station told an Ontario court on Monday that he still feels the loss of his son every day.
At the sentencing hearing in Toronto, the father addressed the teenager who pleaded guilty to firstdegree murder in the 2024 killing of Sulakshan Selvasingam, 28. Speaking through an interpreter, he said his family will never forgive what happened and that no sentence can be long enough.
Court heard that the teen, who was 16 at the time, also pleaded guilty to multiple counts of reckless firearm discharge tied to shootings at several businesses across the Greater Toronto Area. The Crown and defence argued different sentences, and the judge is expected to decide later this month.
