Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard has warned Parti Québécois leader Paul StPierre Plamondon that he could face legal action unless he retracts comments linking the Liberals to organized crime and apologizes.
The dispute stems from remarks Plamondon made on Friday during a discussion about an anticorruption investigation into the Liberals' 2025 leadership race. He suggested, without presenting evidence, that the party's funding may have come from organized crime.
At a Sunday news conference, Milliard called the comments defamatory and irresponsible. According to a legal notice reviewed by RadioCanada, he gave Plamondon 72 hours to retract the statement and apologize. Plamondon said later the same day that he would not comply, arguing he had only raised a question in the context of alleged illegal financing.
