Niagara commuters criticize GO service cuts and delays

Niagara GO Transit delays frustrate commuters with reduced trains and bus swaps See why residents want better rail investment and faster, more reliable service

Niagara residents who travel to Toronto on GO Transit are voicing frustration after temporary service changes and ongoing delays made commuting less reliable. Metrolinx has reduced several train routes between Toronto and Niagara Falls while construction work continues, saying rushhour service will stay in place and bus service will replace some trains until spring. Commuters in St. Catharines said trains have often been running late for months, sometimes by 45 minutes to an hour. Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria said the changes are meant to help improve service in the long term, while Metrolinx blamed slow orders on parts of the corridor it does not own. CN said it supports safe and ontime operations and said it favors dedicated passenger rail lines. Local officials and commuters said the region needs more investment and better infrastructure to support reliable service between Niagara and Toronto.
