Three Mamdani-backed Democrats win New York House primaries

Three candidates endorsed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani won Democratic primaries for U.S. House seats in New York, while two incumbents were defeated.
Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander beat Rep. Dan Goldman in the 10th District. In the 13th District, Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated Rep. Adriano Espaillat. Claire Valdez also won the Democratic primary for the 7th District, an open seat because Rep. Nydia Velázquez is not seeking reelection.
The results add to Mamdani’s influence within the state’s Democratic Party. In another closely watched race, Micah Lasher won the 12th District primary in Manhattan after a campaign that drew major outside spending from political action committees tied to artificial intelligence companies.
