BC coast storm brings rainfall warnings to Vancouver Island and the North Coast Expect heavy rain, gusty winds and flood risk—check alerts before you travel

Environment Canada says the first major fall storm of the season is approaching parts of British Columbia's coast, with rainfall warnings and special weather statements now in effect. A yellow rainfall warning has been issued for western Vancouver Island, including the area near Zeballos, where totals could reach 100 millimetres or more. Special weather statements also cover the North and Central coasts. Meteorologist Chloe Katsademas said a lowpressure system was moving south from B.C.'s North Coast on Tuesday. The heaviest rain is expected between Kitimat and Bella Bella, as well as across the northern and western parts of Vancouver Island. Environment Canada is warning of possible landslides, localized flooding and rising stream levels, especially in areas already affected by dry conditions. Strong southerly gusts are also possible along exposed coastal areas, with the worst weather expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
