A twoyearold child died Saturday evening after being hit by a small excavator in Irlande, a municipality near Thetford Mines in Quebec's ChaudièreAppalaches region.
Police said emergency services were called around 8 p.m. to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a child on private property along Route 165. When officers arrived, they confirmed the child's death.
The Sûreté du Québec's major crime unit is investigating the case, with help from a collision reconstruction investigator. Police said the excavator operator, a man in his 20s, has been interviewed, and family members and witnesses are expected to be contacted as part of the investigation.
