Canada’s flood risk portal is delayed and lacks climate data, report says

A new report from the Auditor General says Canada still does not have a working public portal for checking flood risk by address, even though one was expected by late 2025. The report also says the system, once launched, will not account for climate change scenarios. The findings criticize the pace of federal flood mapping and say delays are making it harder for people, builders, and governments to plan for homes and infrastructure in floodprone areas. Officials said many Canadians live in areas with some flood hazard, while floodrelated disaster costs continue to rise. The report also says federally funded mapping has not consistently focused on the highestrisk areas and that public availability is behind schedule. Public Safety Canada and Natural Resources Canada said they are working on updated systems and maps, including pilot testing and collaboration with provinces and territories.
